Bath’s Dackin named WBL’s top player

Bath’s Madison Dackin has been named the Western Buckeye League’s Player of the Year.

Dackin and the Wildkittens, led by league Coach of the Year Greg Mauk, extended their WBL unbeaten streak to 42 games this season, finishing 9-0 in conference play.

Joining Dackin on the first team are teammate Alyssa Manley, Wapakoneta’s Carly Buzzard, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Elissa Ellerbrock, Defiance’s Emily Poling and Van Wert’s Erin Morrow.

Celina’s Ryan Hoyng has been named the Western Buckeye League Player of Year. Joining him on the first team are Bath’s Andrew Renner, Defiance’s Katwan Singleton, Elida’s Austin Allemeier, Ottawa-Glandorf’s Noah Bramlage, Shawnee’s Jaden O’Neal and Wapakoneta’s Adam Henderson.

UNOH game broadcast

The University of Northwestern Ohio’s men’s basketball NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Championships opener will be breakcast as part of the NAIA’s pay-per-view streaming package that will encompass the first 30 games of the championships in Point Lookout, Missouri. “First and foremost, we are excited to have the opportunity to participate in this year’s national tournament,” UNOH Coach Chris Adams said. “We feel like it is a privilege to open the festivities in Point Lookout. With the schedule we have played this season, we feel like we have put our guys in a position to compete with the highest level teams in the NAIA.”

Reverse Raffle

The Lima Senior High School Athletic Booster Club will hold its annual Reverse Raffle on May 16 at the American Legion Post 96, 711 S. Shore Drive.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with the first raffle ticket being drawn at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be available from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This year’s reverse raffle payout is $5,000. There will also be auction items and other games of chance.

Tickets are $100. The price includes entry and food for two people and one entry into the reverse raffle. New this year is a $25 ticket price. It includes entry, food and opportunity to bid on auction items and play other games of chance. It does not include entry into the reverse raffle.

The reverse raffle is the booster’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The group contributes much money and support to Lima Senior athletic programs.

ONU 6, Olivet 5

FT. MYERS, Fla. — Devin Carr allowed four hits and one earned run in seven innings work as Ohio Northern survived a two-run ninth inning rally by Olivet (Mich.) at the Player Development Complex.

The Polar Bears improved to 4-1 after recording their third consecutive win, while the Comets fell to 0-1.

Bluffton swept

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Bluffton fell in both games of a doubleheader to the St John’s Johnnies. The Johnnies won game one, 10-0, and they scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win game number two, 14-13. The Beavers dropped to 3-4 on the year, while St John’s improved to 5-3. Bluffton’s Luke Hickey had four hits in the two games and the Beavers’ Mike Castro and Jeff Roth had a hit in each game.

College softball

ONU wins 2

CLERMONT, Fla. — Ohio Northern defeated Potsdam (New York) 5-1 and Cabrini (Pennsylvania) 12-4 at the National Training Center.

Ohio Northern moved to 5-3 overall on the season.

Against Potsdam, freshman Kirsten Lightel led the way for ONU, pitching a complete game and striking out 12.

Against Cabrini, ONU freshman Anna Martin had three RBI.

Bluffton drops 2

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Bluffton University fell to 7-3 on the season with losses to Olivet (4-3) in nine innings and St. John Fisher (1-0). The Beavers’ Jess Kuzara got a hit in each game and teammate Ariana Muffo had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs against Olivet.
