LIMA — Winter weather reared its head again Sunday, and most of the Lima area was under a winter weather advisory until 4 a.m. Monday.

Local law enforcement agencies were reporting only minor accidents into the late evening.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office said it had handled “less than a handful” of minor problems and the Lima Police Department reported two “fender benders” with no injuries.

Allen County Sheriff Sam Crish issued a Level 1 roadway advisory at 6 p.m. because of snow-covered roads with blowing and drifting snow.

Mercer County issued an advisory at 6:46 p.m. advising drivers to allow extra time if they had to travel because of slick roadways.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office advised drivers to use caution and said they would advise of any snow emergency declaration. At 8:10 p.m., it upgraded to a Level 1 snow advisory.

The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office also reported that some roadways were hazardous with blowing and drifting snow and slippery in spots.

The snow was expected to taper off after midnight with as much as 3 to 5 inches expected. However, northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph and 25 mph gusts were reducing visibility and causing snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service said that a winter weather advisory meant that periods of snow will cause primarily traveling difficulties. It reminded drivers to be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities. Drivers were advised to use caution while driving.

Several schools had issued two-hour delays and canceled Monday morning kindergarten classes by 8:10 p.m. Sunday. At 8:15 p.m. the NWS said about 2.5 inches of snow had fallen.
