Stechschulte to be inducted into the Capital Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS — Kalida High School grad Leslie Stechschulte will be inducted into the Capital University Hall of Fame this Saturday at Capital.

Stechschulte is a 1990 Kalida grad and a 1994 Capital graduate. She holds numerous Capital and Ohio Athletic Conference scoring records for women’s soccer.

She was a second team All-American in 1994. Four times she was named first team all-OAC.

Among the records she holds at Capital are most goals in a career (86), most assists in a career (63) and most points in a career (235). She also holds the school records for most goals in a season (29), most assists in a season (24) and most points in a season (79). Stechschulte also holds the record for most goals in a game with six.

Her career marks for goals, assists and points are also OAC records. Her school single-season records for most goals and most assists remain OAC records.

Spartans’ Walker

COLUMBUS — Lima Senior’s Jaden Walker won the 200 meter dash in 22.94 seconds at the Ohio State High School Open on Saturday.

Teammate Bryan Mays finished sixth (23.49) in the same event. Mays also was fourth in the 60 dash with a time of 7.12 seconds. The Spartans’ Amelya Upthegrove finished second in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Teammate Ricquel Williams was seventh in the same event. Lima Senior’s Marquis Graham was third in the 60 hurdles (8.572 seconds).

Xavier vs. UC party Wednesday

CAIRO — There will be a Xavier vs. Cincinnati men’s basketball watch party on Wednesday at Biggie’s Coast to Coast in Cairo.

The party kicks off at 6:30 p.m., while the game will start at 7 p.m.

All Xavier and Cincinnati fans are invited.

Nasty Boys to serve as Reds’ grand marshals

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds and Findlay Market Association announced that 1990 relief pitchers Norm Charlton, Rob Dibble and Randy Myers will serve as the grand marshals of the 96th Findlay Market Opening Day Parade, which kicks off at noon on Monday, April 6.

Known as the Nasty Boys, the trio of Charlton, Dibble and Myers were key figures in the Reds 1990 World Championship season.

The first pitch for the Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates on Opening Day game is 4:10 p.m.

Abby Wambach to serve as honorary starter for Daytona 500

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Soccer star Abby Wambach will serve as an honorary starter for the upcoming Daytona 500.

Fellow U.S. national team players Christie Rampone and Kelley O’Hara also will help wave the green flag to start The Great American Race next Sunday.

Wambach, Rampone and O’Hara are the latest celebrities lined up to help kick off NASCAR’s opener at Daytona International Speedway.

Actor Vince Vaughn will serve as grand marshal, giving the command to start engines. Kid Rock will perform a pre-race concert in the Daytona infield. And former “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips will sing the national anthem.

Wambach is the leading scorer in international soccer history with 177 goals. She is a six-time U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year, last winning the award in 2013 after recording 11 goals and six assists.
