Family and Children First Council kicks off year

LIMA — Allen County’s Family and Children First Council had it’s first meeting of the year Monday.

Beginning the year by reviewing the previous one, the council determined that it finished 2014 with funds leftover for the 2015 calendar year.

Most of the meeting was spent with updates regarding projects such as “Help me Grow” and committees such as the RELY committee. The meeting also featured community announcements regarding outside events and opportunities within the area.

To wrap up the meeting, Mike Schoenhofer gave a presentation that introduced the “Start Talking” Drug Prevention Initiative, encouraging parents with tips and ideas on how to talk to their children about drugs at any age.

With the council and community’s support, Schoenhofer would like to make the brief presentation at meetings where parents already gather.

The next meeting will take place at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 9. The steering committee, on the other hand, will meet at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 2.
