Special-needs support group meets
Lima City School’s Your Kids First parent group will meet 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the South Science Technology Magnet School library.
The group began last year for parents of children with disabilities. This month’s speaker is Pam Cotrell, a nurse and advocate with the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Disabilities, who will discuss building positive relationships between pupils, parents and the school.

Lima students observe pioneer life
Thanks to Allen County’s museum, South Science Technology Magnet School pupils will learn more about life as a pioneer.
The presentation to Jim Parker’s third-grade class will include artifacts and activities, led by museum representative Sarah Rish.

Lima schools starts parenting program
This week kicked off the beginning of Lima City School District’s eight-week parenting program.
The program will include discussions led by 35 trained parents and teachers about parenting at home, creating confidence, communication, structure, discipline and success.
Parents do not have to attend all eight weeks or sessions in their area.

Day program looking for participants
Bittersweet at Betty’s Farm is expanding its day program for people with autism or other developmental disabilities.
Open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, the program engages participants by training them in a model that employs meaning, motivation, activity, partnership, purpose and support, as well as other skills and opportunities.

Middle School receives check for reading program
St. Marys Middle School’s iRead check presentation, originally scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, was rescheduled as a result of a school delay caused by inclement weather.
The ceremony will now take place at 9 a.m Wednesday morning at the middle school.
Local Edward Jones’ bank president will present the check, including donations from the Kishler Foundation ($3,000) and St. Marys Rotary ($5,00o).
The money will support the previously successful iRead program, an initiative that encourages student literacy.
