LIMA — Hyperbole, fuselage, infinitesimal.

These three words marked the end, and winners, of Allen County’s annual Spelling Bee on Saturday.

The competition, sponsored by OSU-Lima, included students from 19 of the county’s schools.

Seventh-grader Alotus Wei from Shawnee Middle School won this year after spelling hyperbole. She won the regional bee last year, as well.

Danielle Novak, a seventh-grader from Bluffton Middle School, was first-runner up. Her elimination word was fuselage in the 15th round. The second runner-up was Delphos Elementary School fifth-grader Elizabeth Chung. Her elimination word was infinitesimal.

Each speller received a check or gift card, certificate and trophy. Those who did not place received a certificate and trophy.

All spellers will next attend the Lima News Regional Spelling Bee at 10 a.m. March 21. The winner will go on to the national competition in Washington, D.C.
