SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — One man was in custody after admitting to stealing scrap metal from Apollo Career Center.

Brandon Goodwin, 18, of Lima, admitted to Shawnee Township Police Department investigators that he stole scrap metal from the career center Wednesday morning, according to police officials.

A description was given that two men left the area in a black pickup truck heading east on Reed Road. Employees of Apollo spotted the two men leaving the scene, said Detective Don Marik. The vehicle was found parked on Mook Street after sliding off the road because of the icy conditions.

An officer went to check on the vehicle and later found the metal in the rear of the truck. The truck was then impounded and taken into custody. The metal, valued at less than $1,000, was returned to the career center, Marik said.

An Apollo representative identified the stolen items, according to police officials.

Goodwin’s accomplice was being investigated.

Marik said scrap metal theft is not necessarily a problem for Apollo Career Center, but is a problem around the area.
