Apollo gets new school resource officer

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Apollo Career Center will have a school resource officer on site, thanks to a new agreement with the Shawnee Township Police Department. This collaboration is the result of a year of planning between the department and the school.

Officer Ben Trowbridge will be responsible for providing security and crime prevention services to the vocational school, investigating allegations of criminal activity and also assisting school administrators in preparing for emergency situations. Another idea behind the position is to give students a positive example of law enforcement, since the officer would typically form relationships with them over time.

“The School Resource Officer position will enhance an already great partnership of service to their students and our community,” according to a release from the police department.

Trowbridge will work with the police department in the summer months to reduce overtime for vacation coverage while also providing extra manpower during that busy time of year for the department.

Trowbridge has worked for the township since July 2013. He was certified as a school resource officer through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission in October 2014. He will work varied hours at Apollo Career Center starting Monday.
