24 years of Easter dinners

LIMA — Area residents can count on the Ellis Family Easter Dinner for another year.

The 24th annual event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in Lima and is free to the public.

Nearly 1,500 people attended the dinner last year, a number Kleet Ellis expects again.

Ellis, of Ellis Door & Window, said the dinner brings people together for the holiday.

“You know, we have a lot of repeat customers [through the years]. I think people just count on it,” he said. “Apparently [the dinner] must be halfway decent or else they wouldn’t come back.

“People just come down and it’s like family to them,” he added. “They enjoy the camaraderie and the people and know them all.”

The menu features ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, drinks, dessert and more. The Easter Bunny will also make an appearance at the dinner, Ellis said.

The food drop has been eliminated from the event due to the poor quality of food, Ellis said. However, those who wish to donate items are encouraged to donate food to area food pantries.

Ellis said he is expecting about 70 volunteers, however more are welcome.

“The volunteers are really what makes it happen,” he said.
