AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — A man was expected to recover after he was hit by a bus Wednesday morning.

The Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a call of a pedestrian who had been struck by a bus at 7:16 a.m. at the intersection of Brower Road and Cole Street.

Benjamin Goodwin, 66, of Lima, was walking west on Brower Road when the traffic light turned green. Elida schools bus driver Cheryl Peters, of Lima, struck Goodwin when making a left turn onto Cole Street, according to the highway patrol.

About 30 students were on the bus when the incident took place, but were largely not impacted by the event, state patrol officials said. There were no injuries among the students.

Goodwin was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. Officials said Goodwin was talking and was responsive upon transport. Inquiries for an updated status on Goodwin’s health were not returned Wednesday afternoon.

No citations had been issued in relation to the incident as of Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers were on scene until about 8 a.m.
