Summer Academy returns to Safety City

LIMA — The Lima Police/Optimist Safety City Summer Academy is coming back after a one-year absence.

With new buildings in place, Patrolman Matt Douglass will head this year’s free academy, helping children ages 5 to 9 learn about a variety of safety topics, including dealing with strangers, drug prevention, traffic and bike safety.

The academy runs with either 9 to 11 a.m. sessions or noon to 2 p.m. sessions available Mondays through Fridays. The weeks the academy will run are June 1 to 5, June 8 to 12, June 15 to 19, June 22 to 26, July 6 to 10 and July 13 to 17.
