LIMA — The Rotary Club of Lima has been very actively involved in international projects over the years.

• In 2003 it partnered with the Udupi India Club to provide school furniture, computers and computer peripherals to the Government Pre-University College for Girls.

• In 2005 – 2006, in a joint project in Belize, restrooms were updated and the rooms in a selected school were painted. It was Bob Ruehl’s first trip outside the U.S. for International Service.

• In 2006, in Jaquata, El Salvador, the community of Canton Los Navarretes received a water distribution system.

• In 2008-2011, the club participated in a 3H (Health, Hunger and Humanity) grant project in a protected area of forests and watersheds in the El Merendon Mountains in Honduras. The multi- purpose grant provided clean wood-burning eco-stoves, installed ovens to reduce tree cutting for fuel, planted 2.5 million trees to aid in reversing erosion, and installed sand filters to purify water. Medical treatment was introduced to the inhabitants.

• In 2012, the selected project provided 50 computers to the five public schools and orphanages in San Miguel, El Salvador.

• In 2013, Mizata, El Salvador was the site chosen. The project focused on construction of a secured play area for all ages within the school grounds. Lima Rotary paired with the Maquilishuat Rotary to complete this effort. The result was a re-newed effort of the parents to get their children back in school.

Currently, Lima Rotary is involved with an on-going global water project aimed at providing a wastewater management system in Villa Peniel, Honduras. Once completed, the system will reduce the health issues resulting from poor waste water management. This project has the potential to be the largest International Service project to be undertaken by the Lima Rotary Club and to have the most impact on improving the lives of the communities involved.
