Ohio Northern moves to 6-0 in OAC women’s hoops

MARIETTA — Jordan Kimes scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Ohio Northern women’s basketball team to a 69-60 victory over Marietta College on Saturday afternoon at Fenton Court.

The Polar Bears improved to 10-3 on the season and 6-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers fall to 6-7 and 1-5 in the OAC.

The Polar Bears’ Amy Bullimore was a spark off of the bench, adding 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks on the afternoon.

Hanover 84, Bluffton 81

HANOVER, Ind. — Bluffton led by seven points with less than six minutes to play but host Hanover rallied for the victory. The Beavers slipped to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Hanover upped its season mark to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC.

The Beavers’ Mikayla Coburn had a career-best 15 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Kaitlyn Pennekamp and Taylor Whitaker, who hit 3-of-4 from distance, contributed 12 points apiece, while Brenna Kurilec tallied 10 points and a team-high 11 boards for her third career double-double.

Bluffton will next pay at 6 p.m. Wednesday when the Beavers will play host to Defiance College.

O.U. Zanesville 81, OSU Lima 74

LIMA — Megan Imwalle (19), Kylee Hooker (18) and Kaylee Hooker (12) all scored in double digits for OSU Lima/Rhodes State.

Men’s basketball

Marietta 72, ONU 62

ADA — Senior Isaiah Roux scored 12 points and sophomore Joey Hurless added 11 points to lead Ohio Northern in a loss to No. 9-ranked Marietta at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fell to 6-7 overall and are 1-5 in the OAC, while the Pioneers improved to 13-0 and are 6-0 in OAC play.

The Polar Bears will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when they play host to Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.

Hanover 60, Bluffton 56

Hanover (8-5, 5-1 HCAC) rallied from a 29-20 halftime deficit to defeat Bluffton (6-7, 2-4).

Andrew Finley had 17 points and Ryan Ebbeskotte scored 11 for Bluffton. Teammate Thayne Recker had eight points and 12 rebounds.

O.U. Zanesville 93, OSU Lima 90

LIMA — Xavier Gross (22), Trey Schroeder (17), Quavon Johnson (16) and Larry Fuqua (15) all scored in double digits for OSU Lima/Rhodes State.

Track & field

COLUMBUS — The Bluffton University women came in second to host Capital (180 to 71) while the men ran away from the second place Crusaders (156 to 108.50), taking first in a field of five teams.

Trey Everett won the high jump (6 feet, 8.25 inches) and long jump (22-2.5).

Wrestling

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Ohio Northern finished ninth of 16 teams by posting a 2-0 record on the final day of the 2015 Lycoming (Pa.) Budd Whitehill Duals tournament on Saturday at Lamada Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears (9-2 overall) defeated No. 28-ranked Coast Guard (Conn.) 18-16 and Wesleyan (Conn.) 23-22 on Saturday to finish 3-2 for the two-day tournament.

Both matches came down to the final bout and senior All-American Cody Lovejoy came away with victories to lift the Polar Bears to victories each time.

Against Coast Guard, ONU trailed 16-12 before Lovejoy posted a second period pin to give ONu the 18-16 victory.

Northern trailed Wesleyan 22-18 heading into the final match and Lovejoy got a 12-0 major decision to tie the match at 22-22.

ONU won the match 23-22 on th third tiebreaker, as the Polar Bears out-scored the Cardinals 35-24 in the six bouts that went the full seven minutes.

Lovejoy, who is ranked No. 1 nationally in the Heavyweight division, went a perfect 5-0 on the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He is now 24-0 with 15 pins on the season.

Sophomore Gennar Feucht also went 2-0 on the day at 157 pounds and finished 3-2 in the tournament. He is now 20-3 on the year.

Junior Colt Lovejoy was 1-0 on the day and 4-0 in the tournament to improve to 21-3 on the season at 165 pounds.

The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday at the Wabash (Ind.) Duals.

Women’s swimming

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Junior Allison Lohnes won the 100 back to lead Ohio Northern in a quad meet at Calvin (Mich.) with Albion (Mich.) and Carthage (Wis.) on Friday and Saturday at the Venema Aquatic Center.

The Polar Bears finished fourth with 671.5 points. Calvin won the meet with 1,084 points, Carthage (Wis.) was second with 860 points and Albion (Mich.) was third with 731.5 points.

Men’s swimming

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Ohio Northern finished second of four teams in a quad meet at Calvin (Mich.) Friday and Saturday at the Venema Aquatic Center.

No. 20-ranked Calvin won the meet with 1,119 points, the Polar Bears were second with 799 points, Carthage (Wis.) was third with 732 points and Albion (Mich.) was fourth with 653 points.

Freshman Trevor Keriazes led ONU with three top-5 finishes in the meet.

He won the 200 I.M. in 1:57.76, was second in the 200 breast in 2:13.24 and was fourth in the 100 breast in 1:00.72.
