ONU’s Lovejoys among all-OAC selections

ADA — Three Ohio Northern wrestlers were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2014-15 in voting conducted by the league’s six head coaches.

Senior Cody Lovejoy and junior Colt Lovejoy, both Allen East graduates, were named First Team All-OAC and junior Tyler Gargano was a Second Team All-Conference pick.

Cody was also named the John Summa OAC Wrestler-of-the-Year and won the Most Pins Least Amount of Time award.

He is 42-0 with a 26 pins this year as a heavyweight. In OAC dual meet action, he went 5-0 with three pins in a total time of 5:11.

He recently won the NCAA III Mideast Regional championship with a 4-0 record and will compete in the NCAA III Championships March 13-14 in Hershey, Pa.

He is now a three-time First Team All-OAC selection.

Colt Lovejoy ended his season with a 32-7 record and placed sixth at the NCAA Regionals. He went 4-1 in OAC dual meet action this season and is making his first appearance on the All-Conference team.

Bluffton’s Thayne Recker has earned first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honors. The junior averaged 21.1 points and 9.8 rebounds in helping the Beavers reach the conference tournament finals this season where they lost to Defiance College 78-55. Joing Recker on the first team is Ottawa-Glandorf graduate Travis Schomaeker, who is a senior at Defiance College. Schomaeker has 118 assists, made 63 3-pointers where he his field goal percentage is 42.9 percent.

Bluffton senior Ryan Ebbeskotte, a Delphos Jefferson graduate, was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Softball

ONU wins two

CLERMONT, Fla. — Ohio Northern, led by freshman Kirsten Lightel, defeated Pennsylvania schools Lebanon Valley (2-1) and Immaculata (8-3) on Tuesday afternoon at the Hancock Complex in Clermont, Fla.

Ohio Northern improved to 4-1 overall.

Lightel pitched a complete game against Lebanon Valley (Pa.), striking out eight and gave up just one run en route to the 2-1 victory. Against Immaculata, Anna Martin had two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Bluffton 10, Milwaukee 0

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Bluffton University softball team continued its winning ways as the Beavers defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders handily in a 10-0 win. The victory pushed the Beavers to an impressive 5-0 record to start the season. It was the first game of 2015 for the Raiders.

The Beavers’ Brittany Baker went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored twice. Baker also connected for a double. Wapakoneta gradaute Ashley Knippen had two hits and scored twice.

Pitcher Chloe Shell went all six innings and allowed one hit.

Men’s tennis

Post 8, ONU 1

ORLANDO, Fla. — The No. 1 doubles team of senior Sam Prewitt and junior John Mostowy improved to 5-0 on the season, but the Ohio Northern men’s tennis team fell to NCAA Division II Post University from Connecticut 8-1 during its annual Spring Break Trip on Tuesday morning at the Oak Street Courts.

The Polar Bears fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 1-2.

Prewitt and Mostowy won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles to pick up ONU’s point.
