Bluffton moves on with second-half surge

DEFIANCE — Bret Rumer had 18 points as Bluffton opened postseason play with a 69-63 victory over Van Buren in a Division III sectional match-up

The Pirates recovered from a 34-28 halftime deficit to advance to the sectional finals against third-seeded Swanton at 8 p.m. Friday at Defiance High School.

Bluffton’s Mitchell Ault (14) and Joel Siefker (13) also scored in double digits. The Pirates, the No. 4 seed, will play No. 3 Swanton for the sectional title at 8 p.m. Friday at Defiance High School.

Division III

Riverdale 65, Parkway 56

ST. MARYS — Tanner Bates had 19 points and Brody Adams scored 11 as Parkway finished its season at 4-19. Riverside will return to St. Marys to play for the sectional championship against top-seeded Lima Central Catholic at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Coldwater 67, Hopewell-Loudon 48

ST. MARYS — Derek Thobe (18), Andy Brunet (14), Aaron Harlamert (12) and Ted Fisher (11) all scored in double digits for the sixth-seeded Cavaliers.

Coldwater will play fifth-seeded Delphos Jefferson for the sectional title at 8 p.m. Friday at St. Marys High School.

Elmwood 84, Allen East 71

FINDLAY — Elmwood advanced to play No. 2 seed St. Henry for a spot in the districts at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Findlay High School. Allen East finished its season at 8-15.

Division IV

Leipsic 60, Ft. Jennings 39

VAN WERT — Matt Schroeder and Isiah Lomeli had 13 points each and Jordan Brown scored 11 for Leipsic. Brandon Wehri led Fort Jennings with 14 points.

The Wildcats will face second-seeded Crestview for the sectional crown at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Van Wert High School.

Continental 47, Ayersville 44, OT

BRYAN — Gabe Williams had 14 points and Trevor Williamson, Wade Staffer and Jacob Williams scored nine each for 12th-seeded Continental, which outscored fourth-seeded Ayersville 12-7 in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

The Pirates will play second-seeded Edgerton for the sectional title at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Bryan High School.

Ridgemont 56, Waynesfield Goshen 55

COLDWATER —Ridgemont outscored Waynesfield-Goshen 16-15 in the last quarter to get the victory. Trevor Stover had 21 points and Trenton Sparks scored 11 for Ridgemont. Collin Lowe (14), Jarrod Bly (12) and Cheyne Tate (11) all scored in double digits for Waynesfield-Goshen.

The Golden Gophers will play top-seeded Marion Local for the sectional title at 6:15 p.m. Friday at Coldwater High School.
