LCC bounces back against Ada

ADA – It was more about getting back to who they were than about getting over who they weren’t.

Lima Central Catholic’s 88-45 boys basketball win over Ada on Friday night was exactly what the Thunderbirds were looking for after a 15-point loss to Lima Senior on Tuesday night.

“Absolutely,” LCC coach Frank Kill said, when asked if he saw what he wanted from the Thunderbirds.

“These last few days of practice I’ve been hard on the entire team,” he said. “I want us to be aggressive and I thought tonight was a good night for us to kind of come out of our shell and get back to being the dictator.”

Junior guard Tre Cobbs led LCC (14-2) with 24 points, including hitting 6 of 6 on 3-pointers. Dantez Walton scored 12 points and 13 different Thunderbirds scored when both teams turned the game over to substitutes in the fourth quarter. Brayden Sautter’s 14 points led Ada (6-8).

LCC was 13 of 21 from 3-point range, including 9 of 13 in the first two quarters when it built a 48-27 lead. The Thunderbirds shot 55 percent overall (32 of 58).

“Tonight we made a lot of outside shots, things we haven’t done the last three or four games. I thought we had a lot of open looks because we shared the ball so very well,” Kill said.

Cobbs said, “After Tuesday, we just wanted to come out and be on a better note because Tuesday we didn’t play how we wanted to. We wanted to make a statement and get back to where we wanted to be.”

He agreed with Kill that practices were tough the last few days. “He was definitely upset. Twenty-four turnovers (against Lima Senior) speak for themselves. That’s definitely not LCC at all. We feel better, at least, but we’ve still got some improvement to do,” Cobbs said.
