Marion Local eliminated from state tourney

KETTERING — Marion Local saw its season end with a 47-39 loss to 28-0 Tri-Village on Friday in the Division IV regional final at Fairmont High School.

The Flyers (21-5) held a 22-16 halftime advantage but were outscored 13-5 in the third quarter and then 18-12 in the final period.

Dustin Rethman had nine points and Luke Knapke scored eight for Marion Local.

Bluffton 6, Franklin 2

BLUFFTON — Bluffton University (8-5) opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 6-2 victory over Franklin College (5-6) .

Bluffton’s Nate Simonds improved to 3-1 on the year with the victory, throwing seven innings and giving up two runs on five hits while striking out three.

The Beavers’ Mike Castro’s went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in the sixth. Teammate Jake Townley had a homer and two RBI. Bluffton’s Tyler Spalding was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI and teammate Luke Hickey was 2-of-4 with two runs and an RBI.

CLERMONT, Fla. — Alyssa McQueen had a double as the University of Northwestern Ohio fell to 3-4 on the season.

Swimming

SHENANDOAH, Tex. — Ohio Northern junior Lindsey Inkrott and sophomore Jill Chapman competed in the 100-yard butterfly on Day 3 of the NCAA III Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday morning at the Conroe Natatorium.

Inkrott finished 24th of 33 swimmers in :57.93 in the prelims, while Chapman finished 33rd in 1:01.64.

Inkrott was seeded 16th entering the event with a qualifying time of :56.55 and Chapman was seeded 32nd with a season-best time of :59.80.

The top eight finishers in the prelims of each event earn All-America honors and advance to the Finals in the evening session each day, while finishers 9-16 advance to the Consolation Finals and earn Honorable Mention All-America honors.
