LIMA — John P. Giokaris, of Lima, owns this 1913 Buick Model 25. It is currently on loan to the Allen County Museum. This car has been featured on the Velocity Channel as well as in two National Automobile Magazines. The car has won numerous awards and citations including: the Antique Automobile Club (AACA) Jr. Award, in 2010 at the 75th anniversary national meet in Louisville; The AACA Sr. Award in 2013, at the national meet; the AACA Century Vehicle Award in 2013; Horseless Carriage Club of America 2013 Century Vehicle Award; Buick Club of America, 2010 Gold Sr. Award, in Ames, Iowa; Buick Club of America 2014 Sr. Preservation Award, in South Bend, IN; “People’s Choice” at the 2012 Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance and “Best of Show” at the Ohio Arthritis Foundation in 2010, in Dublin.
This car was originally sold by the Lima Buick Company in 1913 in Lima. The original price of this Buick was $1,050. This car is a four cylinder, 165 cu in, 4-cycle engine, developing 28 mph. 1913 was the last year for right-hand drive. Giokaris purchased the car in 1992 from the original owner’s family in Arlington. It was in need of restoration, after having sat in a barn for more than 60 years. He began the restoration process in 1997.
Giokaris said the most memorable moment of the 13 years restoration was when the engine turned over for the first time on the third crank … a beautiful sound, according to Giokaris. He has named his car “Beulah.”
