CRIDERSVILLE — It was Henry Ford’s son, Edsel Ford, who brought European styling to the 1940 Ford’s. Henry Ford reluctantly agreed to the changes his son brought to the company. Ford cars were cheap in the 1940s, with the 1940 60 Series Coupe selling for $600. Edsel Ford was also behind the scenes of the Lincoln-Zephyr Continental and upscale Mercury models. The styling of the first Ford of the ’40s was good. This model styling was so good that it became one of the most desirable single models made by Ford. The hood was pointed, and the grille was “handsome.” The headlights were sealed beams for the first time, while the fenders were curved to complement the body.

Earl Morton, of Cridersville, brought his 1940 Ford Coupe to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for three years, and says his favorite memory is that the car starts.
