LIMA — The ArtSpace/Lima Photography Club’s Annual Juried Exhibit opens today and continues through Feb. 14 in The Ellen Nelson Gallery at ArtSpace downtown.

“It’s a chance to promote downtown and promote culture,” said Kay Van Meter, the gallery’s assistant manager.

Van Meter said the club goes beyond photography. Members of the club are made of people of all ages, races, creeds and backgrounds.

“This is the first of three big events we have each year,” Van Meter said.

Potential entries were gathered and judged in December for the exhibit. Jurors selecting this year’s exhibits were Ed Corle, Associate Professor of Art, University of Findlay, and first-place award winner in the Architecture category in the 2014 Juried Photography Exhibit at ArtSpace, and Joseph Wagenhals, award-winning photographer from Columbus, whose work has been seen in galleries statewide, who conducts photography workshops locally and internationally, and who has written two books on photography.

Van Meter said the event is free and open to the public.

An opening reception for the exhibit is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today. Prizes, totaling over $500, will be awarded in a ceremony beginning at 7:15 pm. Prizes include Best of Show, two ArtSpace/Lima Photography Club Merit Awards, the Senior Award, the Ohio Proud Award, First and Second places in each category and the Youth Award.
