LIMA — Lima Senior High School students will perform with Grammy-nominated tenor Marco Panuccio Tuesday at Market Street Presbyterian Church.

Lima Senior choir director Steve Popa said the students are not quite in the know.

“They know somebody who is an international singer is coming here,” Popa said, “but I don’t think it has quite sank in.”

Along with Panuccio, Lima Senior choir and band students will perform their solo and ensemble projects they have been working on in the Lima Senior Masterworks Ensemble annual evening of “Music for Sacred Places.”

Panuccio, who has garnered fame as a lyric tenor internationally, has received both Grammy and Emmy nominations for his work.

In addition, students will be given a chance to learn from Panuccio at 2 p.m. prior to the event in the high school choir room. Panuccio will conduct a masterclass with the Lima Senior High School choirs.

Popa said Panuccio also performed at the annual event about six years ago in Lima. He said landing the international star was a matter of being at the right place at the right time.

“We were students together at the University of Cincinnati,” Popa said. “I just asked him if he would be interested. He said, ‘Sure it sounds like fun.’ So we planned it from here.

The concert is free, but a freewill offering will be collected at the door.
