W.A.R. big event this weekend

LIMA — Wrestling and Respect’s 12-year anniversary show promises to bring plenty of thrills for wrestling enthusiasts.

The event takes place Saturday at UAW Hall 1440, Lima, and will also feature the third annual induction into the W.A.R. Hall of Fame.

“This is our marquee event of the year,” said Mike Hirn, a play-by-play announcer with W.A.R. who helped organize the event. “This is our Super Bowl.”

Doors open at 4 p.m., the Hall of Fame ceremony begins at 5 p.m. and wrestling begins at 7 p.m. Reserved front and second row tickets have sold out, but reserved third row tickets remain for $12 each or four for $40. General admission at the door is $13.

An after party will be from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Westgate Lanes.

Hirn said this year’s event has fans coming from 14 different states and Canada. Wrestling fans will see the very first scaffold match in the history of W.A.R. when Jock Sampson defends the W.A.R. Wrestling Championship against Dusty Dillinger. This match will also involve a steel cage and the title belt will be hung above the ring 20 feet from the ground. There will be seven other matches leading up to the title bout.

This year’s hall of fame class includes J.T. Lightning, Jimi V, “Buzzsaw” Brian Ireland, “King Of Lima” Danny Daniels, “Slick” Rick Toms, “Evil Intentions” Elvis Elliott and Truth Martini.
