FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Education Foundation will present two appearances on March 30 by Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, best known as the subject of the 1993 movie, “Rudy,” a tale about Ruettiger’s quest to play football for the University of Notre Dame.

He will speak at 10:30 a.m. and at 7 p.m. at Fort Loramie High School, 600 E. Park St. Both speeches will be open to the general public. There will be no admission charge, although donations will be accepted to benefit the foundation’s educational programs. Attendees should enter the school through doors leading to the gymnasium.

The son of an oil-refinery worker and third of 14 children. It took years of determination to overcome obstacles and criticisms, yet Ruettiger achieved his first dream — to attend Notre Dame and play football for the Fighting Irish. As fans cheered, he sacked the quarterback in the last 27 seconds of the only play in the only game of his college football career. He is the only player in the school’s history to be carried off the field on his teammates’ shoulders.
