Wapak boys, girls finish 4th at swim district

BOWLING GREEN — The Wapakoneta boys and girls each finished fourth in the Northwest District Division II Swimming and Diving meet held Friday at Bowling Green State University.

Sandusky won the girls competition with 276 points while Wapak had 160 and O-G was seventh with 139. Celina also finished in the top 10 with 114 points.

Ontario won the boys team title with 312 points. Wapak had 178 points and Shawnee was sixth with 148 points. Celina was eighth (127) and Ottawa-Glandorf ninth (110).

Kathryn Samuelson (100 yard backstroke) of Ottawa-Glandorf, Mo Gray (100 breaststroke) of Kenton, Mitchell Wilcox (1oo breaststoke) of Ada and the Shawnee relay team of Cobie Mikesell, Noah Curl, Chris Soules and Joey Ellis all finished first. Earlier in the week Sawyer Weitzel of Celina and Caleb Keck of Coldwater won the diving competition.

The Ottawa-Glandorf 200 medley relay team of Samuelson, Brooke Kleman, Amber Ellerbrock and Briana Fenbert, Wapak’s Josie Miller (50 freestyle), Shawnee’s Aleah Hixenbaugh (500 freestyle), Wapak’s girls 200 freestyle relay team of Miller, Sierra Sammons, Jordyn Law and Abbi Gesler, Wapak’s 400 freestyle relay team of Miller, Sammons, Law and Taylor Hager, Wapak’s boys 200 medley relay team of Michael Johnston, Hayden Metzger, Ryan Schneider and Charlie Sutton, Celina’s Jared Fleagle (2oo freestyle), Sutton in the 50 freestyle and the Shawnee 200 freestyle relay team of Mikesell, Curl, Soules and Ellis also landed spots at the state meet by finishing second in their respective events.

Division II state competition will begin Wednesday with girls and boys diving and the swim events are scheduled to start Thursday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Men’s OAC

AKRON — Ohio Northern extended its lead to 114 points on Day 2 of the three-day 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.

Through 13 of 20 events, the Polar Bears have 526.5 points, Mount Union is second with 412.5 points and Wilmington is third with 323.5 points.

Women’s OAC

AKRON — Junior Lindsey Inkrott won the 100 back title in record-breaking fashion to lead the Ohio Northern women on Day 2 of the three-day 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.

After 13 of 20 events, Mount Union leads the team standings with 485 points, Ohio Northern is second with 438 points and John Carroll is third with 376 points.
