LIMA — After success in the Findlay market, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches franchisees are bringing the brand to Lima.

JJ Ventures, based in Findlay, bought property at 715 N. Cable Road in December and plans to break ground in April, said Grant Lawson, one of the owners of the company.

The company has two Jimmy John’s restaurants in Findlay, which Lawson said were welcomed by the community.

“We hope to get a similar response from the city of Lima,” he said.

The company’s vision “involves growing with the city of Lima simultaneously while becoming a major contributor to new jobs, community development and state recognition,” he said.

With hopes of opening in August, the company plans to build a 3,100-square-foot building on the property, with 1,600 going to Jimmy John’s and 1,500 to another unidentified tenant, Lawson said.

The location used to be a Friendly’s restaurant, but is now vacant and was purchased by JJ Ventures for $300,000, according to the Allen County auditor’s website.

Lawson is working on hiring about 25 employees now, some of whom will work in the restaurant and others who run the delivery service.

JJ Ventures wanted to come to Lima because “it’s a fantastic community with a great customer base and diverse business,” Lawson said.

Jimmy John’s is known for “high-quality sub and club sandwiches,” Lawson said.
