State offers farmers interest rate reduction

COLUMBUS — Farmers can once again get some help from a state-wide program known as Ag-Link.

The program, through Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel’s office, offers interest rate reductions on loans and lines of credit for farmers.

“Agriculture is at the heart of Ohio’s strength and farmers work hard to provide the food found on our families’ kitchen tables,” according to a statement from Mandel. “Their work helps make Ohio strong.”

The application period for the program, officially called the Ohio Treasury’s 2015 Agricultural Linked Deposit Program, opened earlier this month and will end March 16.

Applications can be put in online by lenders, and applicants must be for-profit and headquartered, according to the release. When applications are accepted, the treasurer’s office invests in the financial institution the business works through and then the lender lowers the interest rate for the business, according to the release.

Applications will be accepted online at www.OhioTreasurer.gov/agLINK, according to a release from Mandel’s office.
