LIMA — Gas prices are up sharply from last week in the region and in Ohio, according to prices reported to GasBuddy.com.
The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline in Allen County was 1.91 per gallon on Monday morning, up 11.9 cents from last week.
The price is still down 50 cents from last month’s average and down $1.42 from last year’s average.
The statewide average was $1.97 per gallon, up 6.7 cents from last week. Still, it’s down 55.2 cents from last month’s average and $1.41 from last year’s average.
“All in all, it wasn’t a bad week for motorists filling their tanks,” Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, said in a press release. “Since last week, some 12,000 stations dropped their price under $2 per gallon, with 45.1 percent of all gas stations (nearly 61,000) now selling under the $2 per gallon mark. The national average currently stands at its lowest since May 9, 2009, a date that saw 8.9 percent unemployment and Phil Jackson coaching the Los Angeles Lakers toward the NBA title.”
The lowest price in the region was in Auglaize County, at $1.89 per gallon. Hardin County ($1.92 per gallon), Putnam County ($1.94) and Van Wert County ($1.97) all remained under $2 per gallon.
Nationally, the average is $2.12 per gallon, down 6.6 cents from last week.
