St. Rita’s Care Unit recognized

Medicare.gov recently awarded St. Rita’s Transitional Care Unit a five-star Nursing Home Compare rating. Nursing Home Compare, a service offered by Medicare.gov, is intended to give consumers a resource for comparing nursing homes and care units in their area based on health inspections, quality measures and staffing.

Based upon the evaluation of the three criteria, St. Rita’s Transitional Care Unit is providing above average care to patients.

Bath Board members receive honors

Three members of the Bath Local Schools board have been honored by the Ohio School Boards Association.

Jackie Place, Robert McPheron and Timothy McKinney have all been presented with the Ohio School Boards Association’s Award of Achievement. The Award of Achievement is given to school board members in recognition of their commitment to training and leadership activities on their boards of education and region and statewide activities.

In addition, McPheron and McKinney were both also presented with the Master Board Member Award. This award is given to school board members who dedicate themselves to improving their boardmanship skills and knowledge. All Master Board Members must first earn the Award of Achievement before being considered for this additional recognition. The Master Board Member honor is only awarded once to an individual, and is recognized for life. Before being considered for this honor, the member must complete numerous professional development workshops and activities.

PROMOTIONS

Trooper Brincefield promoted to sergeant

Trooper Adam M. Brincefield of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was promoted to the rank of sergeant recently. He will remain at the Van Wert Post to serve as an assistant post commander.

Sergeant Brincefield began his patrol career in September 2003 as a member of the 141st Academy Class. He earned his commission in March of the following year and was assigned to the Van Wert Post.

He was selected as Post Trooper of the Year in 2009. In 2012, he transferred to the Patrol’s Training Academy to serve and an instructor. Later that year, he returned to his most recent assignment at the Van Wert Post, where he was again selected as Post Trooper of the Year in 2014.

NEW HIRES

Gerstner new Edward Jones advisor

Stephanie Gerstner is a new financial advisor with Edward Jones. She will work out of Zack McCain’s office over the next several months then will continue serving investors throughout the Lima area.

She was hired as an Edward Jones financial advisor after an extensive screening process.

Gerstner works on a variety of customized solutions for helping clients prepare for retirement, live in retirement, savor for major purchases, fund a child’s or grandchild’s education and transfer assets.

ONU hires enrollment manager

Ohio Northern University has hired William Eilola as vice president for enrollment management at Ohio Northern University. Eilola replaces Lawrence Lesick, who will be stepping down from this position after more than four years.

Eilola served as vice president for enrollment services and marketing at Lake Superior State University in Sainte Marie, MI since 2006. Prior to that position, he served as dean of enrollment services at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, from 2002 to 2006 and held several admissions positions at Grand Valley State University earlier in his career.

He holds a master of business administration from Grand Valley State University and a bachelor of science in business administration from Michigan Technological University.

Eilola and his wife, Colleen, have three sons, triplets, who are seniors in high school.

Celina’s Dues elected president of association

The Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association elected new board members recently.

Mike Dues, of Dues Nursery & Landscaping, Ltd., in Celina, has been elected president.

CERTIFICATIONS

Scheys nationally certified teachers of music

Krysti and Philip Schey, of Bluffton, have been recognized as National Certified Teachers of Music by the Music Teachers National Association. They are certified piano teachers.

Krysti Schey earned her bachelor’s in music from Bluffton University in 2008, then earned her masters in piano pedagogy from Bowling Green State University in 2010. She is the Independent Music Teachers Forum Chair for Ohio’s Music Teachers National Association, and is the co-vice president for marketing and membership for Middle West Ohio’s Music Teacher Association.

Philip Schey earned his bachelor’s in music education from Bluffton University in 2009. In addition to private teaching, he also works as a piano tuner.

Krysti and Philip own and operate Krysti’s Music Studio in Bluffton, which provides private music lessons to more than 150 students. The studio offers lessons on piano, voice, theory & composition, guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin, viola, cello, clarinet, saxophone, flute, oboe, bassoon and art lessons.

Video series features St. Rita’s Cardiologists

Since February is heart month, Mercy Health has launched a video, Helping You Be Well. Two St. Rita’s Cardiologists, Dr. Julius Kato and Dr. Zoheir Abdelbaki are featured in this video.

Dr. Kato is featured in the series entitled, “What are the biggest risk factors of heart attack and stroke?”

Dr. Abdelbaki can be seen in the series called, “What should I do if I’m experiencing heart attack or stroke?”
