LIMA — A teenager was recovering Monday after being shot Sunday evening.

Officers were dispatched at 7:35 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Third Street and Hughes Avenue in Lima in reference to a shooting.

Detective Andy Johnson with the Lima Police Department said 16-year-old Javionte L. Gilcrease, of Lima, suffered a single gunshot wound to the hand and was expected to recover. Johnson said Gilcrease was recovering at St. Rita’s Medical Center Sunday evening but was expected to be released that night.

Johnson said while Gilcrease was walking down the street, an unknown man walked up to him and shot him. The incident did not appear to be a robbery, Johnson said.

There were no suspects in the incident as of Monday morning.
