Tax season IRS scams

FINDLAY — People all over the area reported incidents of Internal Revenue Service scams, the Findlay Police Department said in a statement.

Residents have reported receiving phone calls from a person claiming to be from the IRS. The person attempts to solicit personal information from the person who answers the phone, and the supposed IRS agent is described as aggressive, according to the statement.

Those who receive this call should hang up and not give out any information.

Real representatives from the IRS will typically not contact you via phone or email. They will send taxpayers a written notification of any tax due via the U.S. Mail.

The IRS never asks for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the telephone.
