LIMA — Those living near PotashCorp in Lima may hear some “booms” throughout the day.

According to a statement from the corporation, PotashCorp began a controlled shutdown of the ammonia unit to perform plant maintenance, creating loud noises from the plant.

Management “wants area residents to understand that the elevated noise level occurs during both the shutdown and startup of the facility. Accordingly, the higher noise levels will happen again when the unit is restarted, and the site resumes normal operations,” according to the statement.

Once maintenance is completed at the plant, residents will hear the loud noises from the plant over the next few days.
