LIMA — Another corner store is joining a county initiative to eliminate food deserts in the area.
Wally’s Fillin Station on North Cole Street is joining Activate Allen County’s Healthy Happens Here and will begin to carry more healthy food options, according to a release from Activate Allen County.
The store will start to carry and highlight fresh produce, whole grains, low-sodium canned goods, frozen vegetables, 100 percent fruit juice and low-fat dairy options, according to the release.
‘The goal of this program is to not only increase the healthy choices offered within small stores, but display these choices in an attractive and appealing way to assist customers in making the healthier choice easier,” according to the release.
Activate Allen County is holding a kick-off event at the store from 3 to 6 p.m. March 20. The organization is looking for other small stores to join the program.
