ODOT reports cost of winter road maintenance

LIMA — The Ohio Department of Transportation released an update on snow and ice operations for the winter season in Allen County and the surrounding area.

Allen County has maintained 474 miles of road and used 3,545 tons of salt. A total of 8,567 gallons of slat brine were used and 52,651 miles were driven for a total cost of $523,857.

Hancock County registered 581 miles maintained, 3,758 tons of salt, 29,090 gallons of salt brine, and 81,682 miles driven at a cost of $507,683.

Hardin County maintained 323 miles of road with 1,405 tons of salt, 60 gallons of salt brine, with 56,847 miles driven at a cost of $277,540.

Putnam County registered 422 miles maintained, 2,673 tons of salt, 10,556 gallons of salt brine, and 62,364 miles driven at a cost of $411,702.

In Van Wert County, the numbers were 375 miles maintained, 2,473 tons of salt, 13,891 gallons of slat brine and 58,214 miles driven at a cost of $357,433.

At this point, ODOT District 1 has maintained 3,356 miles with 22,027 tons of salt, 134,819 gallons of salt brine, and driven 485,291 miles at a cost of $3.3 million.
