COLUMBUS (AP) — State legislators are being sworn into office as they gather for a new legislative session.
Monday marked the first time the new General Assembly convened after November’s elections.
The two-year state budget is high on their to-do lists. Gov. John Kasich will make his budget pitch next month to the Legislature, which his fellow Republicans control with firm grips on both the House and Senate.
The GOP holds 23 of 33 Senate seats. Republicans deepened their majority in the House this past fall, winning a record 65 seats in the 99-member chamber.
Representatives will see new leadership.
Republican Rep. Cliff Rosenberger, of Clarksville in southwest Ohio, is poised to replace House Speaker William Batchelder. Term limits forced the Medina Republican to retire last month.
