KENTON — Larry Wells, a 6-foot,6-inch, 310-pound offensive lineman from Kenton High School has verbally committed to Purdue.
Wells tweeted the announcement on Twitter on Sunday, saying “Officially committed to play ball at the university of Purdue.” #Boilerup #Hammerdown.
Wells, rated a 3-star recruit, had been a verbal commitment to Kentucky. He made the decision to switch to Purdue during an official visit over the weekend.
“All the coaches are great and all the guys there are really cool,” Wells said on Monday. “Playing college football has always been a goal of mine.”
He is the 24th verbal commitment Purdue coach Darrell Hazell has received, including four offensive linemen. Cincinnati, Michigan State, Michigan State and Toledo were also among the schools who had offered him a scholarship.
Purdue was 3-9 last season after going 1-11 in Hazell’s first season in 2013.
Wells said he looked forward to being part of a turnaround at Purdue and said, “It’s definitely an honor to play in the Big Ten.”
Wells was a second-team All-Western Buckeye League selection this season.
