Columbus Grove senior looking toward future

LIMA — The future of renewable energy is in good hands.

Columbus Grove Senior Travis Ellerbrock has it covered once he graduates high school and goes on to study electrical engineering at Ohio Northern University. His goal is to work with wind, solar and hydro energy.

“I feel it has a lot of potential,” he said.

The senior will graduate from Columbus Grove with an honors diploma, which he hopes to do in college as well. He’s been pretty busy the past four years, too. Ellerbrock has played on the baseball and football teams, was inducted into the National Honor Society early as a sophomore, has won awards for science, chemistry and literacy, and has participated in the High School of Business program.

The list of activities continues for Ellerbrock, who also served as class treasurer and a member of the Film Society for three years. He’s a science classroom aide and was a member of the Spanish Club, attended Ohio Northern University’s Summer Honors Institute the past three summers, earning college credit for science, math and engineering, and was recognized as one of Lima Elk’s December students of the month. He’s also received the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence twice.

The high school senior also has some internships under his belt after participating in the High School of Business internship program at the Husky Refinery. Currently, he has an engineering internship at Cooper Tires.

“Its super,” said his father, Mark Ellerbrock. “He participates in quite a lot of activities and I’m very proud of his accomplishments, his mom and I both are.”

Somehow, Ellerbrock still has some free time. Typically, he said he’ll spend it by hanging out with friends, playing video games or sports.

Even on his time off though, Ellerbrock holds himself up to a certain standard, describing himself as a “hard worker, scholar athlete and a good student.”

“I just put a large amount of effort into every thing I do,” he said. “All I can do is my best.”
