COLUMBUS — Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted’s office issued a release Thursday reminding Ohio hunters that gun season will begin Dec. 2, and hunters can also use this time to help give to those in need.
As part of that announcement, Husted’s office shared a photo of the lieutenant governor with a nine-point buck he harvested last weekend using a TenPoint crossbow.
“Hunting in Ohio is the best,” Husted said in a statement. “I enjoy the peace of sitting in the tree stand, surrounded by nature and the vibrant colors of fall. Then there’s the excitement that kicks in when you catch sight of a deer moving in the distance, hoping it comes your way and that it’s the big buck you’ve been waiting for. Each hunt and harvest brings a new experience and story, keeping you coming back for more.”
Hunters who wish to give back can donate the venison to a certified deer processing shop in the state, with that meat going to a verified food assistance charity program. Hunters are not required to pay for the processing of donated venison. The list of processors can be found at feedingthehungry.org.
Youth hunting season will be held Nov. 16 and 17, with gun season running Dec. 2 to 8 along with a bonus weekend Dec. 21 and 22. Muzzleloader season will run Jan. 4 to 7. Archery season will continue through Feb. 2. All hunters are required to wear hunter orange.
