One fatal crash recorded in third quarter

LIMA — There was one fatal crash in Allen County during the third quarter of 2024, bringing the yearly total to six, according to a report from the Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition.

The third quarter comprises of July, August and September. On Aug. 14, a passenger, Miriam Warrington, 92, of Elida, died after a crash at the intersection of North Jackson Street and East McKibben Street. A Lima Police Department crash report said Lavar Kitchen, 37, of Lima, was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at the intersection, causing the three-vehicle crash.

In 2023, there were 10 fatal crashes in Allen County, and in 2022 there were 15. This year’s fatal crashes caused three drivers, two passengers and one pedestrian to die with three crashes on state/federal highways, two on city streets and one on a township road.
