Weather conditions lead to large field fire

RILEY TOWNSHIP — Multiple fire departments responded to a 55-acre corn stubble fire around 4 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Road 4 and Road O near Pandora.

According to a news release from the Riley Township-Pandora Fire Department, “Weather conditions quickly pushed the small fire to an area covering approximately 55 acres, near a ditch with standing corn on other side.”

The release said a minor injury occurred, and Putnam County EMS assisted. Mutual aid was also provided by Bluffton, Columbus Grove, Gilboa and Ottawa fire departments, along with several local farmers.

There was no damage to the surrounding buildings and properties, and crews were on scene for about two and a half hours.

The area was under an elevated fire danger Tuesday due to the combination of warm temperatures and windy and dry conditions.
