Red Cross seeks disaster volunteers

LIMA — The American Red Cross Indiana Region is seeking volunteers to join their disaster team to help locally and/or deploy for major national disaster relief efforts.

Disaster experience isn’t necessary, but applicants should have supervision, management or organization skills; a strong desire to help others; and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. All candidates must complete necessary training. Volunteers make up 90% of the Red Cross’ workforce. Those interested can sign up at https://www.redcross.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer.html.

A news release from the Red Cross said Red Cross participants, including more than 70 from the Indiana region, are on the ground across five states after hurricanes Milton and Helene providing shelter, food, water, relief supplies and comfort. The threat for more hurricanes continues, the release said, and the southwest and California are forecast to have an above-normal wildfire risk this fall.

Other ways of helping the Red Cross help disaster victims are to donate money at https://www.redcross.org/ and schedule an appointment to give blood at https://www.redcrossblood.org/ or use the blood donor app.
