Roses and Thorns

The roses are particularly beautiful this time of year, when the chill of autumn starts to bite.

Rose: To the woman who found Rissa Gable’s class ring. The Lima Senior graduate lost her ring back in 1992, during her senior year. Last week, a woman in Fort Wayne contacted her, saying she had the ring and would mail it back to her. The woman found the ring years ago and kept looking for its rightful owner. We appreciate the good deed.

Thorn: To the annoying vermin who call in baseless threats to schools, wasting taxpayer money on investigations and interrupting the educational process.

Rose: To Shawnee firefighters, who went along on Domino’s pizza deliveries Thursday night to check people’s smoke detectors. If detectors worked, the pizza was free. If they didn’t, the firefighters replaced batteries or detectors. It’s a good service project.

Rose: To the hard workers who renovated Ottawa’s Dumont Building, breathing new life into a 120-year-old building that now houses a brewery and restaurant, insurance company, and various officers, including building owner Technicon Design Group.
