One dead after Interstate 75 crash in Shelby County

ORANGE TOWNSHIP — One person has died after striking a semi-truck on the shoulder of Interstate 75 Friday morning in Shelby County.

According to a news release from the State Highway Patrol, at approximately 2:17 a.m. a Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on I-75 near mile marker 86 when it drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a semi driven by Ahmed Omar, of Columbus, that was stopped on the right shoulder.

The Jeep driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver’s name has not yet been released so law enforcement can notify next of kin. Omar was not injured.
