Community Enrichment Awardees announced

LIMA — The Community Enrichment Dinner Committee announced its award winners for this year’s event, with several prominent Lima area names set to accept them.

The dinner will present the awards at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, 7 Town Square in Lima prior to the play “Black Angels over Tuskegee.”

Theresa Henry will accept the Small Business Equity of the Year Award, which recognizes minority, woman-owned, veteran-owned or LGBTQ-owned businesses. Henry has run Smart Start Development and Learning Center for nearly two decades.

Sky Zone will accept the Rising Business of the Year Award as an up-and-coming business that “has demonstrated ongoing and exceptional growth and service to the Lima community.” Owners Imed Jmiai and Mwafa Turjman started the business in December 2023.

The dinner will honor Meagan Horton with the Young Leadership Community Image Award for bringing “bold, innovative and creative ideas to the table” and shaping the future of Lima. Horton runs Mega Pop-Up which helps other local entrepreneurs set up pop-up shops to start their businesses.

Bill Angel will receive the Community Legacy Service Award for “a consistent lifetime giving of time and resources to multiple local causes over the span of decades.”

Angel is a political science professor at The Ohio State University at Lima and once chaired the Allen County Democratic Party.

The dinner will honor Cenovus Lima Refinery for Corporate Leadership in Diversity Inclusion Award for being a “true champion of diversity.” The committee said Cenovus is a leader in embracing diversity of both background and thought and that the organization champions underrepresented groups and supports their advancement.

Doors for the event open at 4:30 p.m. with dinner to start at 5 p.m.

Doors for the general public open at 6 p.m.
