Lima native achieves Navy career milestone

WASHINGTON — Lima native Steven Van Dyne was promoted to the rank of chief petty officer in the United States Navy at a ceremony held at the Washington Navy Yard on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Van Dyne, one of seven musicians in the United States Navy Band, will now wear the anchor collar device symbolizing his new rank and authority.

Van Dyne enlisted in the Navy in 2016 after passing an audition as an audio engineer for the U.S. Navy Concert Band and completing basic training. He graduated from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College, where he focused on classical music production.
