Urology center to anchor long-awaited Crossroads project

CRIDERSVILLE — A vision that started nearly ten years ago, the Crossroads project in Cridersville was originally planned to consist of quality housing, entertainment, dining and shopping opportunities and more. On Tuesday, attendees at a project update meeting in the community room at the Otterbein Cridersville retirement community learned that a urology center will kickstart the much-anticipated project near Interstate 75.

Joshua Bloomfield, the project manager and director, shared with the audience that the medical center is expected to break ground in October. Bloomfield mentioned numerous times that other big plans for the project such as gas stations, restaurants, shopping centers, coffee shops, and hotels are interested in being part of the project but need to see the Urology medical facility break ground and begin construction before they hop on board.

Dr. Craig Nicholson, medical director of the Urology Service Line and Director of the Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program for the Kettering Health Network currently has offices in Wapakoneta and Troy. He will serve as the medical director for the Crossroads Urology Center.

The urology center is expected to act as a quick center where a patient can go and get whatever they need done without a long wait.

“The idea is if you have a kidney stone you can come and get the work done and the removal in 24 hours. The average wait time to see a urologist for a kidney stone can be two weeks,” Bloomfield said.

Bloomfield reminded the audience that development projects of this magnitude take time. A 10 to 15-year plan is expected for everything to come together, he said, with a 25-year development agreement that started in 2022.

“Everyone wants development, [but] no one wants in their backyard,” he said.

According to Bloomfield, the current state of development isn’t easy.

“There hasn’t been a development like this since the 1970s. There’s a reason for that. It’s tough,” he said.
