Soil and Water Conservation District shares advice on pool draining

LIMA — The Allen County Soil and Water Conservation District offered safe practices when draining pools for the fall and winter.

Residents should stop treating their swimming pools with chemicals 10 to 14 days prior to draining, to allow the chemicals to evaporate and dilute into the water before entering the yard.

The district also cautioned against draining pool water into the storm drain, which leads directly into rivers and streams.

Stormwater runoff is responsible for around 90% of pollution entering streams, according to the district.
