LIMA — The National Center for Urban Solutions is ready to find untapped talent in Lima.
The center made its expansion to Lima official on Wednesday, and the public was encouraged to attend a free cookout with music to celebrate.
The organization is located at 219 S. Central St. in the Central District area in Lima.
The NCUS is a national social enterprise organization that focuses on improving communities by helping people obtain sustainable employment opportunities, earn their high school diplomas and connect corporations and industries to the community.
For more than 30 years, the organization has been active in its 18 offices nationwide.
“Manufacturing is the biggest revenue employer industry in Lima,” said Lisa Ashafa, project coordinator.
Community engagement and grassroots outreach are the strategies to find untapped talent and connect them with employers.
“We know people want to work. We just have to go out and find them and excite them about a job,” said Senior Vice President Perry Gregory.
Finding the potential is most of the heavy load.
“Our process is short-term; you come to us, we’re going to get you job-readiness skills and then connect you to industry employers in collaboration with West Central Job Partnership,” Gregory said.
Something that has no intention of being short-term is NCUS’s future in Lima.
“We’re to stay,” Gregory said.
NCUS also focuses on charter management services, getting high school diplomas for adults over 22 years old, providing short-term manufacturing credentials and employer coordination.
“We don’t just help people get a job, we help make sure people get it and keep it,” Gregory saiid.
The National Center for Urban Solutions’ expansion into Lima marks a significant opportunity for residents to enhance their skills and connect with meaningful employment.
