Supreme Court candidate: Keep politics out of courtroom

LIMA — In the heat of election season, Judge Dan Hawkins, a candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court, appeared in Lima to address a GOP luncheon Friday. With more than 20 years of legal and judicial experience, Hawkins spoke passionately to the Republican crowd about many things, such as reflecting on his career, emphasizing the upcoming election, and the importance of keeping politics out of the courtroom. His commitment to upholding the Constitution and ensuring the safety of communities was evident as he addressed the audience.

Hawkins expressed his vision for the future of the courts and highlighted the differences between his approach and recent developments from the Democratic party.

“I’m running for the Ohio Supreme Court to protect those freedoms and the rule of law. Now more than ever, we realize the importance of judges and courts,” he stated.

He emphasized the pivotal nature of the upcoming election and the need for a voice that aligns with conservative values.

“Our justice system only works if people have faith that the system treats everyone the same no matter their race, sex, or political beliefs,” said Hawkins.

Judge Hawkins shared his personal experiences that have shaped his beliefs and reassured the crowd of his unwavering commitment to their shared values.

“Those of us who love this country of ours and want our children and grandchildren to grow up in an America that is free and prosperous, we need to continue to fight for those values that made our nation great,” Hawkins said.

“We need to make sure that when we get people out to vote that they don’t just vote for who to be president and leave. We need to make sure that they vote from the White House to the State House, to the courthouse that we vote conservative to make sure Ohio can remain safe, free, and prosperous for years to come,” he said.
