Lima Fire Department extinguishes train car fire

LIMA — The Lima Fire Department responded to a train car on fire Thursday evening, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Firefighters were initially called at 7:45 p.m. to the vicinity of East Pearl and North Jackson Streets to respond to a report of a fire in a train car reportedly carrying coal. When responders did not find anything at that location, they moved to the rail yard off Robb Avenue, where they found the train car, according to the department.

The rail car was moved to a crossing at Landers Avenue, where one of the fire trucks used an elevated stream to quickly extinguish the blaze, limiting any unnecessary exposure to firefighters.

No reports of damages were included in the Facebook post.
