Lima Locos 13, South Ohio Copperheads 4
The Locos got another strong outing from starting pitcher Drew Kirby (University of Louisiana Lafayette) and backed that up with 13 hits in a nine-un victory over South Ohio.
Kirby (2-1) went 6 2/3 innings and limited the Copperheads to three earned runs on six hits. Griffin Howe (St. Johns River State College) finished the game with just over two scoreless innings to earn a seven-out save, his third of the summer.
The Locos had a 2-1 lead after four innings. In the top of the sixth, they added three more runs on RBI singles from Liam Richards (Yavapai College) and Brice Estep (Coastal Carolina University).
Both teams scored twice in the seventh inning to make it 7-4, but the Locos kept the pressure on with a four-run eighth inning to pull away.
Two-hit games were recorded by Estep, Justin Gorski (Miami University), Blake Bowen (University of Akron), Kaden Brown (Kennesaw State) and Landon Tate (Kennesaw State).
Sebastian Alexander drove in three runs.
Benjamin Bates (Adrian College) was the losing pitcher for South Ohio after allowing seven earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. Ben Clark (Oakland University) had a pair of hits in the loss.
The Locos are now 16-12 on the season, while South Ohio drops to 12-16.
Grand Lake Mariners 20, Muskegon Clippers 19
In a game that turned into a complete shootout, Grand Lake scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth to steal a victory from Muskegon.
Andrew Kell (Salisbury University) played hero with a two-out, two-run single that plated Stefan Di Corrado (Dartmouth College) and Ty Davis (Ball State University) to finish off the win.
Davis went 5 for 5 with four runs batted in, Jackson Rains was 4 for 6 and drove in three and Cameron Bryant (Ohio University) added two hits and four RBI for the Mariners.
Ryan Uhlenhake (Oakland University) pitched the ninth inning and picked up his second win despite giving up four earned runs.
Zachary Warren (Grand Valley State University) was the losing pitcher after he allowed all seven of Grand Lake’s runs in the ninth inning. Sam Clay (Davenport University) went 6 for 6 with seven runs batted in for the Clippers.
Grand Lake’s win makes them 8-17 and Muskegon falls to 15-10.
